Season’s greetings!  Can you believe we’ve nearly turned the page on 2014? I heard someone say once, “The bad news is time flies.  The good news is you’re the pilot.”  As you think about all you’ve accomplished this year I hope you feel a sense of accomplishment!  It’s a journey and it’s important once in a while to get up to 30,000 feet and appreciate how you’ve navigated the challenges and achieved your goals.  We aren’t always inclined to stop and take stock of our accomplishments.  As a matter of fact, in our office we have a running joke about how little time we take to celebrate. It’s usually around 7 seconds of “hoorays” or “congrats” then someone exclaims “back to work!” in a light natured fashion.

In 2015 it’s my goal to celebrate the small stuff with more gusto.  2014 has been a year of change and growth for you, and for us, here at Bates.  This year we successfully launched the Bates ExPI, the first-ever research based model of executive presence and our science based Bates ExPI Assessment.  In one short year it’s been embraced globally as an important new development in leadership.

When I thought about what I’d like to say to you as we close the year, it goes back to that theme of piloting your own course.  Our mission at Bates is to help leaders shape and influence the world.  Next year if you’re part of our community we’ll be telling you about new ways we want to support you in your leadership.  As you chart your course and think about what you want to contribute next year we will be here providing you with cutting edge approaches and timely support.

In the meantime as you head into time off with family and friends, take the time to look out the window of your cockpit and appraise all you’ve accomplished from 30,000 feet.  And then, when you’re satisfied you’ve taken in the view, take time to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Take care and happy holidays.
