Laura Fay is a Principal and Senior Consultant at Bates. Her passion is empowering leaders to inspire their teams, better execute on strategy, and transform their business.

Laura has over 20 years of experience in corporate leadership with deep expertise in executive communication, serving as counsel, coach and advisor to senior leaders during times of crisis and change management, and helping executives find compelling ways to share their stories and connect with stakeholders. Over her career, she has served as chief advisor to the CEO and management teams on internal and external communication strategies and oversaw public relations activities and served as chief media spokesperson. Her experience includes significant tenure at Wells Fargo, Wachovia, and Scudder Investments where she held leadership positions in corporate communications, content marketing, and thought leadership.

Results Achieved

Laura’s work has helped senior executives and their companies navigate business challenges, significant market disruptions, and seismic industry shifts, including:

    • Guiding firms and leaders through numerous change management and transformation events and significant business disruptions, such as CEO transitions, leader departures and succession planning, legal/regulatory and reputational events, M&A activity, and company consolidations.
    • Establishing frameworks for developing crisis communications to minimize fall out and accelerate the path to positive outcomes, including firm response during the 2008 financial crisis and aftermath.
    • Preparing senior leaders to deliver impactful, effective investor communications to key stakeholders to maintain the company’s market position.
    • Empowering executives to tap into meaningful and authentic communicative leadership strategies to move the needle within their organizations and with external audiences.

Laura is certified in the Bates ExPI™, the first and only research-based, scientifically validated assessment to measure executive presence.

Laura holds a Master’s in Communications from Suffolk University and a Bachelor of Arts from Gettysburg College. She participates in nonprofit Boards, leads volunteer campaigns, and has taken leadership roles in employee resource and diversity and inclusion groups in her organizations.
